How2 Peel Plantains

Ripe or green plantains can sometimes be difficult to peel. There are two techniques you can use to make things easier.

Place the plantains, skin on, in a shallow baking dish or 13”X9” baking pan. Pour boiling water over them enough to cover. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes. The skin will loosen form the plantain.

The other option is to steam it. If you have access to a steamer , this technique is easiest. Simply steam for 3-4 minutes or until the skin turns black.

The next step is quite simple. Just cut the top and the bottom of the plantain off. With your knife make a slit along the length of the plantain, just deep enough to remove the skin. Slide your finger between the skin and plantain remove the skin. You are now ready to cook!
